Letterpress Studio

The Master Letterpress Studio in our headquarters allows us to host a variety of workshops and demonstrations. It also can lead to collaborations with other artists, poets, writers, etc. in order to make broadsides and prints with the community.

Our letterpress studio contains 4 presses:

- Vandercook 4
- Vandercook Universal III
- C&P 8x12 Old Style
- Geitz Platen Press

As well as:

- Challenge Automated Guillotine
- Board Shear
- Dozens of drawers of metal and wood type 
- Paper collection (both parent sheets and offcuts)

Though we have only hosted two workshops to date, there will be more to come! Our goal is to bring people together around local poets and writers and the history, craft, and art of fine typographic letterpress printing.

The Real Lead Saloon is an informal gathering of artists, writers & printers led by CODEX co-founder Peter Koch. The group meets on Saturdays since early 2021 to design, hand-set in lead type, print, illustrate, and bind the lyrical writings of friends and collaborators at the CODEX Foundation’s Logan Book Arts Center.
